Child and Family Benefits in Nova Scotia
If you have children, there are several federal and provincial benefits you may be entitled to. Most are delivered automatically when you file your taxes.
Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
Tax-free monthly payment for families with children under 18. The amount depends on your income and number of children. Most families receive it automatically after filing taxes. Call 1-800-387-1193 if you are not receiving it.
Nova Scotia Child Benefit
An additional $127.08/month per child for families with income under $26,000 (reduced for incomes up to $34,000). Paid alongside the CCB — no separate application. File your taxes to receive it.
Child Care Subsidy
Helps pay for licensed child care so you can work or go to school. Low-income families may pay nothing. Covers daycare, before/after school care, and family day care. Apply at your local Community Services office or call 1-877-424-1177.
Canada Learning Bond
Up to $2,000 in free government money for your child's education savings (RESP). You do NOT need to contribute any of your own money. $500 initial deposit plus $100/year until age 15. Apply through your bank or financial institution.
