Updated May 28, 2026

Free Dental Care in Nova Scotia

Dental care is expensive, and many Nova Scotians go without it. The new Canadian Dental Care Plan and other programs can help.

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Federal dental coverage for Canadians who:

  • Have no private dental insurance
  • Have family income under $90,000
  • No co-pay if income is under $70,000 — completely free dental care

Covers preventive (cleanings, x-rays), diagnostic, and restorative (fillings, extractions) services. Call 1-833-537-4342 to apply.

Seniors' Dental Coverage

If you are 65 or older with no private insurance and family income under $90,000, you are a priority group for the CDCP.

Family Pharmacare

While not dental, Family Pharmacare provides income-based prescription drug coverage. Your out-of-pocket costs are capped each year. Call 1-800-544-6191. This can free up money for dental care.

Community Dental Clinics

Some community health centres and dental schools offer lower-cost dental services. Call 211 for locations near you.

Filing Your Taxes

You must file a tax return to be eligible for the CDCP and most other benefits. If you need help, find a free tax clinic by calling 1-800-959-8281.
